Start-up Namibia hosts fashion council of Namibia

The month of May brought together StartUp Namibia and the Fashion Council on one platform during the 25th episode of Campfire, ‘The Catwalk’ talk, to have a much-needed conversation on the Namibian fashion industry.

During the event held on 20 May 2021 at Windhoek’s Utopia, the fashion council of Namibia’s board members, Jaime-Lee Diergaardt and Disney Andreas set down with Campfire host, Reuben Williams, to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the local fashion industry.

Diergaardt, who serves on the board as the Events and Project Coordinator, is also a multifaceted creative, fashion designer, visual artist, art instructor, and event planner, while Andrea, who serves on the board as a Stakeholder Engagement Officer, is also a social entrepreneur and environmentalist.

The vibrant audience on the night were also given an opportunity to ask the panel questions pertaining to the challenges faced by the fashion industry especially during the global coronavirus pandemic, as well as plans on a place to overcome said challenges.

The event also closed off with a runway show featuring, amongst others, the work of fashion designers Melisa Poulton and Lafika Joyce Heita.

Sasha Willemse, the Startup Community Manager, thanked the Fashion Council of Namibia for an amazing penal discussion, and for sharing insights into what it takes to be in the fashion industry.

“Thank you for sharing your fashion designer network. We closed off the show with an awesome fashion show and this was all because of you all,” said Willemse.

Willemse further encouraged stakeholders in the fashion industry who are not yet members of the FCN to register.

“I would recommend you join as soon as possible because it takes a community to build a brand, entrepreneur, and a startup,” she concluded.
